Nutritious vegetables from the sea
Various vitamins, antioxidants, essential fatty acids, amino acids, proteins and a total of 67 mineral elements have been analyzed in all Seagreens® capsules for human consumption. For example, Seagreens® Food Capsules are a source of vitamins B1, B2, B3, B9, B12, C, D, E, zinc, potassium, iron, molybdenum and iodine, among others. Iodine supports the thyroid gland and normal nervous system function, is important for the skin, contributes to normal energy metabolism and learning ability, and plays a role in normal growth in children. Vitamin B1 (thiamine) is good for the heart and nervous system, activates your body's natural energy and contributes to a clear mind. Zinc is good for bones, the cell division process, vision, the immune system, your hair, skin and nails and for memory. Vitamin E and manganese are antioxidants that are cell protective, and vitamin B3 (niacin) helps with fatigue, supports energy levels and contributes to mental resilience. Seaweed also provides prebiotic polysaccharides. This document on the Seagreens® website provides more information on the high and complex nutritional value of seaweed, which includes a table comparing the nutritional value of seaweed with the nutritional value of other plant species.
The finer things (to know) about seaweed
Seaweed is the collective name for a group of unrelated, large algae that live in salt or brackish water and are also called marine algae or macroalgae. They occur in all the world's oceans and are also often found near river mouths. Some species can adhere to hard substrates, while others float freely in the sea. There are even seaweed species that can grow as long as 60 meters! Seaweeds are extremely strong and tolerate both solar radiation and exposure to air and the violent wave movements of water. They are the most resilient and prolific plant species on earth, coming in a variety of shapes, sizes and structures and packed with nutrients. In fact, they are the plants on Earth that contain the most minerals, as they absorb minerals directly from the ocean and can store them in their cellular structure. In this regard, seaweeds alone because they grow in the sea have unique properties compared to land plants. Among other things, seaweeds are rich in minerals and trace elements such as calcium, sodium, magnesium, iron and iodine, and they contain several trace elements. Seaweed is also a source of antioxidants, prebiotic fiber, vitamins A, C and E and plant proteins. Not surprisingly, in many countries it has been believed since time immemorial that seaweed can contribute to good health!

Our past and future with seaweed
The history of seaweed as a food, medicine, utensil and care product goes back thousands of years, and although it was also used and eaten in Europe and North America, it is particularly widespread in Asian culture. For example, it was used as a therapeutic remedy by Emperor Shen Nung as early as 5,000 years ago, and archaeological evidence from Chile even shows that seaweed was used by humans as early as 12,000 years before Christ. Most researchers further agree that seaweed was essential for the development of our brain and nervous system, since our ancestors could actually only find the fatty acids needed for this on the coast, where they had access to fish and shellfish, which in turn obtained the fatty acids from algae like seaweed. Today, seaweed is regaining popularity all over the world, not only because it is rich in nutrients, but also because it offers many environmental benefits. After all, it is hugely nutritious, grows easily and at lightning speed and can be grown or cultivated in almost every country in the world without major impact on existing ecosystems. So adding seaweed to our daily diet is not only good for our health, it also offers potential solutions to the world's food problem. Moreover, it can be used to generate energy and make biodegradable packaging material, making it a promising contribution to a sustainable world.
