How does your body generate energy?
In our body, energy is continuously produced in all cells. This happens in the mitochondria. These are, as it were, the energy factories of our body that are located in almost all of our cells. In particular, there are many mitochondria in our muscle cells and when you have more muscles, for example when you do strength training, you also have more mitochondria in your body. Energy production in mitochondria takes place through cellular respiration, a complex biochemical reaction in which energy is generated, also called ATP. This happens through the biological combustion of small biomolecules, mainly glucose. For this, it is necessary that food that enters the body is broken down into substances that are useful for the body. In fact, your mitochondria do not produce energy themselves, but convert it from one form to another. You can see this process a bit like the respiration of your cells.
Mitochondria and feeling fit
Well-functioning mitochondria are therefore quite essential for a healthy and fit body that has sufficient energy. They not only provide the energy for all basic processes, such as the beating of your heart, the digestion of food in your intestines, your cell renewal and your breathing, but they also give the body the energy it needs for your daily activities. All the basic needs of your body together use up about 70% of the available body energy. As we get older, the number of well-functioning mitochondria per cell slowly decreases. It is a normal and natural phenomenon that there is less energy available in your body as you get older.
Increase your own vitality
When we feel fit and full of energy, it has a positive effect on our state of mind and our health, but also on the people around us and on the performance we deliver. Many people are therefore looking for good natural sources of energy in the form of food, an energy supplement that suits them or a daily routine that promotes energy metabolism. One way to increase your vitality is to exercise or play sports in the morning. This promotes the production of energy and you will benefit from this the rest of the day.
