Prescript Assist

Prescript Assist has been one of the best-known and most powerful probiotics for many years, formulated on the basis of Soil Based Organisms (SBOs), soil bacteria that naturally occur in the earth. The product was proudly formulated by the US-based parent company Safer Medical of Montana, which specializes in these special bacteria. The diversity of the formula is exceptional, as it combines prebiotics and 28 probiotic strains from the earth. The formula - based on almost 20 years of clinical results - was recently renewed and this new product line of the one and only Prescript Assist is also available at Ergomax. Safer Medical of Montana wants to represent a return to Mother Nature with its products.

What are soil bacteria?

The wonderful world beneath our feet is still largely unknown to many researchers. What we do know is that soil bacteria, or Soil Based Organisms (SBOs), play a very important role there, just like fungi. For example, they are indispensable for the photosynthesis process of plants and for the defense of plants and trees against pathogens. Although approximately three quarters of our medicines are created by means of soil bacteria, developing new medicines is difficult, because the organisms are difficult to study in a lab. The way in which bacteria grow and react depends on their context. For example, these organisms use 'quorum sensing', a phenomenon in which gene expression depends on the presence of the number of conspecifics and on certain signals that are picked up in the environment. For the vast majority of soil bacteria, it is not yet possible to artificially imitate the ideal growth conditions. However, we do now know from research that a diversity of bacteria and a good balance of the right types are essential for promoting life in both the earth and, for example, in our intestines. 'For life' is also the literal meaning of the word 'probiotics'.

Differences in probiotics

The balance in your intestines depends on the right ratio between the different bacteria that live there. Probiotics come in all shapes and sizes and generally consist of a number of bacterial strains, ranging from lactobacilli and bifidobacteria to soil bacteria. Partly due to these product variations and everyone's unique intestinal flora, the effect of probiotics differs per person. When purchasing probiotics, it is always good to pay attention to the types and quantities of the bacterial strains present in the product. It is also important that probiotics reach the intestines alive, so that they are not eliminated by stomach acid or bile. Finally, exercise, sleep and a healthy diet are essential to keep your intestines healthy. Drinking enough water and consuming fiber-rich food is particularly important, because this creates a breeding ground that benefits the beneficial bacteria.

The very first probiotics

The term 'probiotics' was first used by the German physician Werner Kollath, who describes probiotics as 'active substances that are essential for a healthy life'. However, the development and use of probiotics are much older. For example, the first use dates back to the Neolithic period, between 10,000 and 5,000 BC. Because herders in the Middle East at the time stored their milk in goatskin bags, which were exposed to the burning sun during the day, the milk began to ferment. At this time, the use of other fermented foods, such as kefir, beer and wine, also emerged. It was only much later, in the 19th century, that people discovered which processes underlie this and what their importance was. The French chemist and biologist Louis Pasteur in particular was significant with his theory that the cause of many diseases was a minuscule living being, which he called a 'micro-organism'. This important discovery in medical science eventually led to many other insights, such as the development of vaccines, the sterilization of instruments and wound dressings, and the pasteurization of foods.

Committed to quality

With Prescript Assist probiotics, you can be sure that you are doing well. All products are produced cleanly and safely in FDA and NSF certified facilities. The final products are all quality controlled before, during and after the manufacturing process and the machines are checked again and again for dust and allergen residues. Safer Medical of Montana constantly strives to improve quality and efficiency and continues to develop and integrate new technologies into the production process. The company aims to bring the best probiotics based on soil bacteria to the market and to provide its customers with good information about probiotics based on their own years of research.
